O odkryciu powiadomił w sobotę portal internetowy BBC News. Nazwę dał kawiarni jej pierwszy właściciel - Juan Hansen. Lokal, gdzie grano i tańczono tango, istniał do 1912 roku, kiedy to ówczesny burmistrz kazał go zburzyć i zwolnić teren na potrzeby robót drogowych.
Archeolodzy dotarli do leżącej pół metra pod ziemią ceglanej podłogi Cafe de Hansen.
"Była to sala taneczna pełna nocnych marków z różnych warstw społecznych. Atmosfera była niebezpieczna, ale zabawa przednia" - pisał o Cafe de Hansen poeta i autor tekstów tanga Enrique Cadicamo.
